Early Years and Training
I’ve been drawing and painting for longer than I can remember. In my youth, art was an escape for me: a way to get lost in imaginary worlds and create my own realities. Over time, my outlet turned into passion and discipline.
I first studied Scientific Illustration at the University of Michigan, then transferred to the Savannah College of Art and Design to learn illustration and follow in the footsteps of my art idols. I longed to have the skill set and mastery of painting that turn-of-the-century portrait painters like John Singer Sargent and artists of the golden age of illustration like Rockwell, Leyendecker, and NC Wyeth had. After a bachelor’s and master’s degree in illustration, I continued to study under Master Painters, learning traditional methods of painting from Florence-inspired ateliers and mentorships.
Finding My Style
After many years of working as an illustrator and traditional portrait painter, the influence of the wildlife and history of my new surroundings after moving to the West, intersected with a desire to create more expressive and gestural art.
I began painting the personalities of the local wildlife that surrounded me - intimate portraits of creatures with their own stories, painted in a loose contemporary fashion that gave them an ethereal feel, but were grounded in the traditional skill set of my painting studies. I focused on the parts of painting I was most passionate about: emotional expression and paintings that connected to me at a soul level. I became obsessed with creating paintings that looked back at me and connected to me spiritually. It was a way of honoring the grand creation of the natural world with my own artistic creation.
Through the Eyes of Creation
Transitional Work
This painting style gives me the joy of spontaneity and the satisfaction of painting intricate details all in one painting. Over the years, people have told me my work feels “transitional,” that it bridges traditional skill with a contemporary look. I like that. It means my paintings can hang in a log cabin in Montana or a modern home in downtown Denver and still feel right at home.
Career and Collectors
My career has given me the chance to show work in galleries like Aspen, Jackson, Scottsdale, Santa Fe, Bozeman, and Whitefish, among many others, furthering my love of the West and all it has to offer.
I’m as committed as ever to creating originals for collectors. At the same time, I’ve expanded into limited edition print releases to open the door for more people to enjoy my work while keeping each piece special and exclusive.
My intention is to broaden the ways people can connect with my art and create new opportunities for collectors at every stage of their journey.
Why I Paint
For me, I don’t chase trends or try to be the biggest name. It’s all about connection. My hope is that when you see my work, whether it’s in a gallery, in your home, or as part of a print release, it feels alive, it feels true, and it gives you a quiet moment that reconnects you with a sense of awe to our source.
I’d love to invite you into my world, a place where art isn’t just seen but felt. I hope you find something that speaks to you.
That’s why I paint.
What I’m Creating Now
Today, my focus remains where it’s always been, on wildlife and Western subjects. I continue to create originals for galleries while also offering limited edition print releases that make my work accessible to more collectors. My prints are carefully crafted, exclusive editions that carry the same intention as my originals.
My work is about creating art that feels alive, true, and connected. Art that invites you to pause, reflect, and feel something real.
I’d love to invite you into my world, a place where art is experienced, felt, and lived with every day. My hope is that when you live with one of my paintings, it brings a spark of connection into your everyday life.
